Isn’t it time that your drifting was consecrated into pilgrimage? You have a mission. You are needed. The road that leads to nowhere has to be abandoned...
— Alan Jones

These days no one needs a travel agent.

But we all need a cheerleader. And a coach. And on some journeys, a guide.

The longest journey is the journey inward.
— Dag Hammarskjold

Pilgrimage Coaching

travel + transformation

Pilgrimage is two-fold travel. Outwardly, it involves physically traveling to a place, with all the risks, trials, and joys this entails. Pilgrimage is also an inward journey to the deepest, most essential parts of the self.

In my own travels, I've found having a trusted guide who knows the perils and rewards of pilgrimage to be absolutely essential.

Coaching sessions are often most valuable when done before, during, and after a pilgrimage.

Spiritual Direction

transformation, travel optional

An ancient practice, Spiritual Direction starts from the assumption that God is already at work in your life. It's not a matter of if, but how God is acting. I seek to listen, reflect, and support this work in you—and let God do the real directing.

The focus can be on a variety of issues and goals. The work can be short-term or ongoing, but generally meets once per month, for one hour. Skype, phone, or in-person appointments are available.

People keep asking me why I look so relaxed and confident after my last vacation. I always tell them, it’s not a vacation you need, but a Pilgrimage with Ryan.

I’ve been walking since I was two and a half, but I’ve never gone on a walk like that.

About Ryan

Ryan is a traveler, writer, photographer, trekker, explorer, idea-machine, pilgrim, foodie, mystic, equally at home hiking up a mountain, exploring some far-flung, (or near-flung) city, or reading a good book.

His deepest wish (apart from a time travel machine) is that every person would learn to live on the cutting edge of life—fully alive, and fully pursuing what's deepest in them.

He also believes this is where God dwells (as well as in spicy food, really good beer, and croissants). Ryan also can't stop using parentheses (help!).

Ryan has degrees from Stanford University (B.A. Psychology), The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology (M.A. Counseling Psychology) and was a participant the Renovaré Institute of Christian Spiritual Formation.
