How I Stack up Against Rick Steves' Travel Consultants

In an earlier post I wrote about my love for Rick Steves and how much he's influenced me. Following in his footsteps, I now offer travel consulting of my own, but with a significantly different focus than Rick's---pilgrimage, transformative travel, and long walks.

Inspired by Rick's Travel Consultants, I thought it would be fun to write-up my own Travel Consultant Profile and see how I stack up!

Here's a couple profiles of Rick's Consultants. Take a look, I'll use their format as a template for my own below.

Now here's my go at it.

I think I stack up pretty darn well if I do say so myself!

Traveled to: France, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, England, Scotland, Wales, Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Bulgaria, Turkey. Outside of Europe: Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Alaska, Hawaii, as well as extensive traveling in the rest of the United States.

Additional expertise: Walked the Camino de Santiago (Spain), Pilgrimage to Lindisfarne (U.K), The Walker’s Haute Route (France & Switzerland), The Annapurna Circuit (Nepal), The Tour de Mont Blanc (France, Switzerland, & Italy), The John Muir Trail (USA), & The Wonderland Trail (USA) among others.

First-hand knowledge of many important pilgrimage sites including Taizé, The Camino, Iona, Lindisfarne, L’Abri, the Hagia Sophia and more.

My perfect day: Waking up in Paris and grabbing the world’s best croissant on my way to the train station. Arriving in Taizé in time for mid-day prayer. Another quick train and lunch at my favorite cafe in nearby foodie capital Lyon. Then catching a helicopter up to the Alps where I spend pleasant afternoon of hiking amid alpine flowers, jagged peaks, and the tinkling of cow bells—culminating in a well deserved beer, a delicious communal meal, and night’s rest at the charming Refuge de Mottets.

Favorite travel product: My Patagonia Nine Trails Jacket is versatile, durable, and light! It's been indispensable while hiking—regulating temperature and keeping wind and moisture off. It is also reasonably fashionable in cities &  takes up almost no room in my bag—and though very thin and light it has hardly a sign of wear after 3 years of heavy use!

Runner up: Steripod Toothbrush Covers—a cheap, useful, and colorful way to keep your toothbrush clean and funk-free while jammed in your pack.

A customer raves about Ryan: "I'd trust Ryan to handle/manage/coordinate/provide tips with any single aspects of your travels. I'm a worldwide wanderer and he's come through every single time I've been abroad and needed his advice." - Barrett Caldwell
