Candlelight Service at Taizé

20130728-170704.jpgEvery Saturday night there is a candlelight service at Taizé. The whole church dances with light as the flame is passed from candle to candle, symbolizing the resurrection life of Christ.

It is as beautiful a thing as one could ever hope to experience.

We sang this echoing, two-part chant as the candles were being lit:

Chant #61. Jubilate coeli (canon)

(Heavens, sing with gladness; earth sing out rejoicing: Jesus Christ is risen from the dead.)

Listen on Rdio here.

*A note on the photo: Yes, it is a picture of a postcard. No, people don't generally still look like they're straight out of the 70's, though some do. Yes, you sit on the floor. No, it's not soft. And yes, it's even more magical than this photo suggests.
