The Stories We Tell

by Ryan Moore

There's a story we tell

With our lives.

It's not always an easy story to tell,

I'll be the first to admit.

I'm not saying there isn't darkness,

Confusion, trials, loss of hope.

But even still

Do we not walk

Under a transcendent kind of light?

A slivered moon,

Impossibly pure,

Suspended silver,

In a darkened sky.

Is not the moon waxing,

Growing ever larger with each passing day?

Is not every story we write etched with light

Even in the deepest gloom?

One day soon,

The light will rise in fullness,

Chasing away every shadow.

What will we see

When there is no darkness

On the surface

Of our hearts?

Every valley, peak, and ocean

Laid bare.
